On 1st January 1963, the “Azienda Municipalizzata Autoservizi Senesi (AMAS)” – Municipal Bus Services Company of Siena was established, and with it, the public management of urban transport services in the city of Siena.  The extra-urban service continues today, instead of being characterised as a management entrusted to a conspicuous number of private companies, distributed throughout the province. 
The project of public management of transport services in the area of traffic in Siena consolidates and expands itself with the constitution of “Consorzio Intercomunale Trasporti” (Train).  It took place in 1974, with the decree of 12th April in the same year, following a protocol of agreement between the provincial administration of Siena and 23 municipals of the province.  
On the 1st July 1974, as established previously in the statute of the neo-constituted consortium, the operative tool for the management of local public transport services was created.  The name given was “Aziende Consorziale Trasporti – Train” (consortium transport company).  During the first few years, the consortium acquired all the small  companies that existed in the area until 1982, when the survey process was concluded, for all the extra-urban provincial services managed by the company Sita.  In particular, with Siena/Florence and vice versa, ever since it has been managed by ‘pool’. 
On 1st July the corporation of owners of the consortium Train, in the arrangement of art. 25 and 60 of 9/6/1990 No 142, ratified transformations in order to maintain the same social region.  Framed in it, the two previous structures (consortium and the consortium company) determining a new single structure, supplying it with legal personalities and an entrepreneurial organisation to accomplish the double function of programming and managing the service.
From 1st April 2000 Train has become an S.p.A.  The transformation happened as to establish from the legal decree 422/1997 and from the regional law 42/1998, that started a market of philosophy and public company, accustomed up to the moment of operating nearly in system with a monopoly in circumscribed areas.
 
Since 2003 Train has accomplished four important European certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, SA 8000) resulting in being the most certified transport company in Italy.  The accomplished certifications guarantee the quality of all the aspects of commercial activity, the effectiveness of the process of the service supplied to the protection of the work, from the environment to the security and to the social responsibility, on the basis of precise international standards.  ISO 9001 certifies the quality, the rationality and effectiveness of the productive process of a company seen in the eye of an eventual customer.  The certification for social responsibility (Sa 8000) has been achieved instead, by demonstrating the respect of national, international and contractual norms in working relationships.  La certificazione ambientale ISO 14001 dimostra la presenza in azienda di un sistema di gestione ritenuto efficace da ispettori esterni per il rispetto dell’ambiente e l’impegno per la progressiva riduzione degli impatti prodotti sugli aspetti su cui ha influenza (riduzione delle emissioni, differenziazione dei rifiuti, risparmi energetici, riduzione dell’uso di risorse non rinnovabili e ricorso a energie alternative); come pure la certificazione OHSAS 18001 dimostra una analoga presenza di un sistema di gestione ritenuto efficace da ispettori esterni ai fini della tutela della salute e della sicurezza dei lavoratori, l’impegno per ridurre gli infortuni sul lavoro e per il miglioramento della sicurezza nel tempo. 
In the course of 2004, public competitions for the choice of the managing company of local public transport services in various areas were held in Tuscany.  This will continue for a total of 5 years; 2004-2009.  Train, in transitional business associations with other subjects for public transport in the same region, the management of TPL (Trasporto Pubblico Locale) is awarded concerning the area of Siena.  In December 2004, following the conclusion of the public competition, Siena Mobilita’ was formerly established; the consortium company of limited liability (establishing the matter at a stage in the competition) between Train Spa, LFI Spa, RAMA Spa, SITA Spa and ByBus Scrl.  These are entrusted with TPL urban and extra-urban  services in the province of Siena for 5 years; 2005-2010 through the service contract, stipulated with the provincial administration of Siena.  At the end of 2004, Train service srl was established through the line of business relative to the managing of maintenance.  Starting from 2005, it has offered its services not only to Train Spa, but also to third parties

Cessione ramo d’azienda

In data 22 Luglio 2010, in esecuzione della delibera assunta in data 29 giugno 2010  dall’Assemblea Ordinaria dei Soci di TRA.IN Spa, è stato proceduto alla cessione del ramo d’azienda inerente il trasporto pubblico locale, i servizi scolastici, il noleggio, le attività connesse e integrate alla mobilità e le attività di manutenzione alla nuova società “tiemme spa”, avente sede legale in Arezzo, Via Guido Monaco n.37 , divenuta esecutiva con il  1°Agosto 2010.

Tiemme S.p.A. è stata costituita, oltre che dal Gruppo TRA.IN (Tra.in S.p.A. e Tra.in Service Srl), dalle società La Ferroviaria Italiana S.p.A. con sede ad Arezzo, Rama S.p.A. con sede a Grosseto, A.T.M. S.p.A. con sede a Piombino (Li).

Al nuovo soggetto sono state cedute le partecipazioni detenute da TRA.IN Spa nelle seguenti società: Siena Mobilità Scarl, ByBus Scarl, Rama Mobilità Scarl, Ti-Forma Scarl.

La Soc. TRA.IN Service Srl (controllata al 100%, costituita alla fine del 2004 mediante cessione di ramo d’azienda ed avente come attività la manutenzione degli autobus aziendali e la vendita ed assistenza degli autobus di terzi) è cessata successivamente alla costituzione di Tiemme per effetto del processo di fusione per incorporazione in TRA.IN Spa (4 ottobre 2010).
Ai fini contabili e fiscali la fusione è stata retrodatata al 1° gennaio 2010.

A seguito della trasformazione e della nascita di Tiemme S.p.A., TRA.IN si occupa della gestione del proprio patrimonio immobiliare e della gestione delle partecipazioni nelle società Tiemme S.p.A. ed in LFI Spa, a seguito dello scioglimento della Soc. Alexa S.p.A., che ha comportato la collocazione delle quote possedute direttamente in capo ai soggetti titolari.

Particolarmente strategica la partecipazione nella società Tiemme S.p.A., della quale Tra.In S.p.A. detiene una quota del 36,72%, in quanto la partecipata gestisce l’attività di trasporto pubblico di persone, urbano ed extraurbano, di tutta l’area della Toscana meridionale coperta dalle Province di Siena, Arezzo e Grosseto e di parte della Provincia di Livorno.
