SienaCard, travelling without tickets and with a discount.

On urban buses in service in Siena, Colle Val d’Elsa and Poggibonsi, it is possible to use the SienaCard to pay for urban tickets for simple direct routes, with a discount of 5 cents.  When boarding the bus it is sufficient to insert the card into the ticket machine.  The passenger must select the urban tariff which he/she would like, and the ticket charge chosen will deduct the money present on the SienaCard.  The passenger will not receive a receipt, since every ticket will be registered on the memory of the card.  It is not necessary to have any secret code.  At the moment of payment, the virtual money is electronically transferred onto the equipment on board, while dates and times of when the process is carried out are registered on the card.  It is the same as the portable machine that the ticket staff uses to read the amount paid. Therefore it is electronically accumulated onto the equipment on board, which will be deducted at the end of the day.  The SienaCard can be purchased at banks, and it can be topped up at enabled cash point machines or in banks.  It is not essential to have a bank account.
